Age of empires 4 civilizations tier list7/13/2023 Andean Sling - Mitigates a weakness of two units the Incans rely upon without being overwhelming.Yasama - Makes Japanese towers arguably the best in the game.Thalassocracy - Greatly buffs the Malays' defenses from warships, making other features of the civilization, such as their infinite Fish Traps, much more viable.Sultans - A great and versatile boost to Gold income in the latter game, at which point Gold is especially critical for the Indians.However, when combined with the Koreans' Team Bonus reducing minimum range and their access to Siege Engineers, this tech makes Korean Siege Onagers arguably the best in the game, comparable only to fully upgraded Celt Siege Onagers. Shinkichon - This technology would likely be a tier lower for many civilizations.Shatagni - Is key to making the Hand Cannoneer portion of the Indian trio (Camel Riders, Hand Cannoneers, and Elephant Archers) able to outperform their competitors.Sipahi - Arguably makes the Turk Cavalry Archers the best in the game.Silk Armor - Not only does the extra Pierce Armor make the Tatar Cavalry Archer above average, it improves the raiding abilities of the Scout Cavalry and Steppe Lancer lines. Recurve Bow - The added range alone arguably makes Magyar Heavy Cavalry Archers the best in the game, let alone with the +1 attack.Notably also improves the performance of the Condottiero, making them a true alternative to the Champion. Pavise - The key technology that gives Italian archers an edge above the generic archers of other civilizations.Inquisition - A cheap technology that makes Monks more threatening, basically counteracting Faith.Furor Celtica - Drastically increases the HP of Siege units, already a Celtic strong point.This still ends up making their Imperial Age cavalry amazing for what is otherwise an Infantry civilization. Farimba - A potentially overpowered technology, except that Malians lack Blast Furnace.Virtually always worth getting in the Imperial Age. Fabric Shields - Provides a significant armor boost to three lines of units, which between the three of them have great coverage.Corvinian Army - Turns the Magyar Huszar into arguably the best Trash option in the game, but it didn't cost that much Gold to begin with, and it competes with their discounted Scout Cavalry line.+5 Melee Armor makes them terrifying Trash killers. Bagains - Grants extra Melee Armor to the Two-Handed Swordsman, arguably making up for the lack of the Champion upgrade.Anarchy - Training Huskarls from the Barracks is very important for the Goths' method of swarming foes with hordes of infantry.Atlatl - Although this tech only affects the Skirmisher line, this is exactly what it needs to do, helping the Aztecs counter Archers without spending huge amounts of Gold on Eagle Warriors.Torsion Engines - Makes the Ethiopians one of the best Siege civilizations in the game, notably improving all siege units except the Trebutchet.It is arguably a fair trade for the Paladin upgrade, which is saying something. Stirrups - A reasonably priced technology that makes all Bulgarian cavalry much more effective.Perfusion - This is the technology that, combined with cheaper infantry, allows the Goths to be such a menace.Kamandaran - Turns the lackluster Persian Archer line into one of the best Trash options available.Garland Wars - Expensive, but drastically improves the performance of four distinct lines of units.Forced Levy - Gives the Malay an amazing trash unit that works well against all other trash units and can be built in any Barracks.Druzhina - The main thing making the Slavs an Infantry civilization, but it qualifies thanks to its sheer impact in large battles.
